The Reading/Writing Center offers a series of workshops for students preparing to take the CUNY Proficiency Examination (CPE). Below are descriptions of these workshops and a schedule for Summer 2008 workshops.

Task 1: Critical Reading for the CPE: Learn the strategies of active reading as they apply to the long reading, the short reading, and CPE writing assignments.

Task 1: Writing the Task 1 Essay: Learn what writing strategies work best in taking the CPE and how to apply your writing process to this important exam.

Task 2: Reading, Interpreting, and Writing about Charts and Graphs: Learn to read, describe, and analyze information in graphic figures and practice using your analysis of a chart, graph, or table in a written response.

Reading Study Groups: Small groups of students study the Task 1 long reading together, putting into practice the skills learned in the Task 1 workshops.
