Punctuation and Capitalization: Capitals and End Punctuation
(Exercise B)



     Proofread the following essay for capitalization and end
punctuation errors.  For each sentence correct any errors, or, if
there are no errors, write C above the sentence.

     (1) Illnesses are frightening occurrences; No one wants to

become Ill.  (2) every day, Millions of People in America are

struck down by a variety of bugs.  

     (3) The most common sickness is the Common Cold.  (4)

Everyone, at some point in his or her life, experiences this gift

from Mother Nature.  (5) Parents of young children usually claim

the status of special victim of this ubiquitous germ.  (6) It is

generally estimated that Youngsters catch between six and ten colds

each year!  (7) So you can understand why their parents feel

victimized?

     (8) Another regular visitor is the Flu; this illness travels

in cycles and sometimes reaches Epidemic proportions.  (9) old

people and very young children should take special precautions to

avoid contracting this illness.  (10) In some cases, it can be

fatal!

     (11) Then, of course, there are various childhood diseases:

measles, mumps, chicken pox, whooping cough, and roseola.  (12) For

some of them, vaccines have been developed  (13) for others, there

are No Preventive Measures; each child must contract the disease

and build up a personal immunity.  

     (14) Childhood diseases usually don't cause problems, unless

an adult contracts one of them.  (15) No twenty-four-year-old wants

to contract the mumps!  (16) That can be a most unpleasant

occurrence?
